What size bat does my kid need? Bat size chart by age, height and weight
Length comes from your player's height and weight; the weight (the drop) from strength and your league's
rules. The charts below are the makers' guidance, not rules. Your league can set a longest bat or a drop limit, and
those come first.
By age
Louisville Slugger and DeMarini publish the same "most popular length by age" list, and Rawlings and Easton publish
one that matches it at every age but 17 and up (Louisville Slugger, DeMarini,
Rawlings, Easton).

By height and weight
Makers also chart length by height and weight. This is the chart Rawlings and Easton both publish
(Rawlings, Easton), which they call "a general guide". Find your player's
height across the top and weight down the side.

Phoenix Bats publishes its own chart (Phoenix Bats). It gives the same length for most
players under 5 ft; from 5′1″ up it often gives a length half an inch to an inch shorter.
Two quick checks with the bat in hand
Length: stand the bat on the ground beside the player; "the knob of the bat should reach the center
of your palm" (Easton).
Weight: hold the bat straight out in front of the chest with one hand. "If you can't hold the bat out
for at least 30 seconds, consider trying a lighter model" (Easton).
The drop: your league decides first
The drop is the bat's weight minus its length: a 30 in, 20 oz bat is a -10. Makers' advice: "Generally, players under 11
will be using a -10 or higher," and "Older players can usually bump up to a -8 or -5" (Easton).
Louisville Slugger and DeMarini suggest -11 for 10 and under, -10 for ages 10 to 12, -8 for 12 to 13 and -5 for 13 to 14
(Louisville Slugger, DeMarini).
League rules override all of that. For example, USSSA sets a -8 limit at 13U and makes BBCOR (-3) the national standard
at 14U, and high school bats are -3 (BBCOR). Find your league on the bat finder: each page lists
the drop limit and the longest bat allowed, and the bats that fit in those sizes.
